These small aquatic crustaceans grow to about 6-9mm long (Gordon, 1960). They have been found in caves in Brazil's Mato Grosso and Table Mountain in South Africa, and aquifers in Australia (Jaume, 2008). This wide distibution suggests the lineage originated at least 200 million years ago.
