Collen, B., Darwall, W., Ram, M. & Smith, K. (SRLI Freshwater Fish Evaluation Workshop) Contributor/s Justification
Assessed as Vulnerable due to an inferred population decline of greater than 30% over the past ten years. This is due to an increase in water pollution in the upper Paraná River basin but also because of continuing decline in habitat area and quality. It is suspected that populations of A. trierythropterus may have also become fragmented due to the construction of many dams within their range. With an estimated Extent of Occurrence of less than 12,000 km², this species also qualifies under B1ab(i,iii,iv) due to the threats listed above on its preferred habitats.
