is a fast growing species, that is widespread and at least very abundant in some parts of it range, particularly over rocky bottoms, and therefore considered Least Concern. However, it is considered overexploited, primarily as bycatch in the Canaries and Aegean and possibly overexploited elsewhere in trawl fisheries and therefore its population levels need to be closely monitored.
