Reasons: According to McCune and Geiser (1997), this lichen occurs from southern British Columbia to California, but mainly to the west of Cascades. It rarely occurs as a disjunct inland and west to Montana. It inhabits moist conifer forests; is scattered at low elevations and is most abundant at middle elevations in the Cascades and Coastal Range (McCune and Geiser 1997).
