Comments: Gunnison sage-grouse (Centrocercus minimus) formerly was regarded as conspecific with the greater sage-grouse (C. urophasianus). It was recognized as a distinct species by AOU (2000) on the basis of genetic differences (Kahn et al. 1999, Oyler-McCance et al. 1999) and differences in size (Hupp and Braun 1991), courtship behavior (Young et al. 1994), and plumage (Young et al. 2000).
