Juvenile female elongate, slender, later fusiform; when mature the body swells enormously by the accumulation of undigested food and amictic eggs, and becomes almost spherical or shapeless; cuticle soft, flexible, outline changing; very transparent. Head offset by shallow neck-fold, longer than wide, with semi-circular rostrum-like prominence. Foot short, c. 1/9 total length, ± slender, 2 pseudosegments. Toes moderately long, ± slender, acute, slightly decurved ventrally. Corona very oblique, laterally 2 strongly ciliated areas, ciliation of buccal field not extending beyond mouth, circumapical band absent. Brain large, saccate. Retrocerebral sac present. No constriction between stomach and intestine. Gastric glands large, spherical. Resting egg elongate oval, smooth. Male with functional mastax and rudimentary digestive system.
Mastax with very large salivary glands. Eyespot on top or posterior to brain; crystalline body present. Rami triangular, decurved posteriorly, inner margins set apart. Fulcrum ± rodshaped, slightly expanding posteriorly. Unci with single tooth, expanded into a triangular basal plate. Manubria long, slender, posterior end hook-shaped, head with small posterior and anterior lamella. Epipharynx 2 sigmoid plates with rib, near base of rami.
