There is substantial restriction in gene flow within and between variants in the C. festinatus group, as population subdivision may be more common than originally thought. [Goodisman & Hahn, 2005:2185-2197]. The ongoing debate over the nature of the C. festinatus complex has thus far prevented the detailed study of the evolutionary history of the species [Snelling, 2006:83].
