This is one of the two loathed pests associated with Queensland - Bactrocera tryoni, the Queensland Fruit Fly. It's resting on the petal of a purple orchid. The other, of course, is the Cane Toad; wouldn't it be nice if cane toads ate fruit flies and choked on them? No such luck.
