Differs from B. CALIFORNICUS in having red rather than yellow spots on the dorsum of juveniles (Gergus 1998). Differs from BUFO WOODHOUSII in lacking a dorsal stripe, having weak or no cranial crests, more rounded parotoid glands, and by the males lacking a dark throat. Differs from BUFO SPECIOSUS in having the light colored areas on the eyelids, front of the parotoid glands, on the sacral humps, and in the middle of the back; also by lacking a sharp-edged tubercle on the hind feet. (Stebbins 1985).
