Global Range: (>2,500,000 square km (greater than 1,000,000 square miles)) Widely distributed, though apparently nowhere abundant, in tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate waters throughout the world. In North America, usually not north of Maryland and southern California, but occasionally strays into northern temperate waters.
