Global Protection: None to few (0-3) occurrences appropriately protected and managed
Comments: Both EO's are located on Seth Forest Demonstration Area, a state-owned forest management demonstration area. The management plan currently does not include protection of the two pools. However, the forest manager has been contacted and provided with written protection recommendations (McCann 1998 and McCann 1999). These recommendations will be incorporated into the management plan when it is revised, possibly in the next two to three years. In the mean time, no logging, forest manipulations or other potential disturbances are planned or proposed on the property. Assuming this is the case, the greatest potential threats now may be due to surrounding land uses on private land (see GTHREATCOM).
Needs: Incorporate habitat protection needs in the management plan for Seth Forest Demonstration Area. Critically important is prohibiting all other anthropogenic disturbances in and around (within > 100 meters) the two vernal pools; maintaining forest connectivity between the two pools; and restricting gypsy moth and mosquito control in and in the vicinity of the two pools. Outside of Seth and within the pools' watershed, minimize any potential impacts that development on nearby properties might have (e.g., sewage treatment, stormwater runoff, groundwater withdrawal from wells).
