Description
Cooper's Hawk, Accipiter cooperii, is a medium-sized hawk native to the North American continent and found from Canada to Mexico. The average size of an adult male is 15.5" long and has a wingspan of 29". The adult male is significantly smaller than the average female by 2" in length. These birds capture prey from cover or while flying quickly through dense vegetation, relying almost totally on surprise. They are increasingly seen hunting smaller songbirds in backyards with feeders.
