Economic Importance for Humans: Positive
<p>At least 1,000 years ago, the exploitation of this species began by hunters. Mainly, these whales were taken for blubber, used for oil for illumination, and for meat. No longer is this the primary threat to right whales. The main economic gain comes from eco-tourism which continues to be a fast growing industry (Katona 1999).</p> <p><strong>Positive Impacts: </strong>body parts are source of valuable material; ecotourism</p>
