Brachionus urceolaris is considered cosmopolitan, known to be very euryhaline and is mainly a freshwater and pelagic species. However, it has been often found in brackish environment as well and it may be considered also livening in littoral near estuaries. Like all the monogononts, it is mostly parthenogenetic and punctuate thelytokous parthenogenetic generations with the occasional production of males Miracle et al. (1987).
