Welcome John! Since your images are coming in through Flickr you might want to group them together in a collection of your own. Just search for your pictures and add them to a new collection.

Hi Annkatrin, currently, there is no way to filter your newsfeed, however, we are discussing improvements for the newsfeed feature. So this would be a good time to provide feedback on how you would like this to work. How would you define "personal messages?" How about:
1. Any messages left on your personal profile
2. Any messages that are direct replies to comments you have posted anywhere on the site (we are working on a reply to feature)
3. Any comments & curator actions about articles you have posted to EOL.Non-essential messages would then be notices about comments & actions on items in your watchlist that are not replies to your comments. But what about the following:
4. Replies to replies to your comments; i.e., if you have participated in a conversation, do you want to see all future posts in this conversation in your high priority newsfeed?
5. Comments (but not actions) about collections & communities you manage.

Hi all, I've got a question and apologies if it has been asked before but on a quick browse through I didn't see it. Is there a way to display just comments left for me on my profile if there are any? I haven't had a chance to log in for a while and now my newsfeed is many pages long containing all the community feeds and watchlist items as well. I can get each community newsfeed or my watchlist from their corresponding pages, but apparently no list of personal messages. Is there a way to exclude community newsfeeds and watchlist items when watching my profile newsfeed?

1. We added a huge new partner last week: Tropicos.

Creba, this is a very good point. The problem is that we are getting these fungal names from INDEX Fungorum rather than SPECIES Fungorum, which is the source of the synonym data you have cited. Index Fungorum is a much larger database (>400,000 records) than Species Fungorum (>40,000 records). We do have the names listed as synonyms because we get the Species Fungorum data through the Catalogue of Life. We are supplementing our fungal names with Index Fungorum because the Species Fungorum/Catalogue of Life fungal names data set is incomplete. So we have two choices: 1. Harvest only Species Fungorum/Catalogue of Life and lose many good fungal names or 2. Harvest Index Fungorum and get a lot of dubious fungal names. I have asked our names infrastructure people to look into the possibility of using synonyms data from Species Fungorum to inform the Index Fungorum classification; i.e., if Species Fungorum identifies a name as a synonym, it would be good if we did not create a separate page for this name.

I suspect that lots of synonyms for fungi are imported via 'Index Fungorum', although these names are clearly stated as such on their website. See for instance http://www.speciesfungorum.org/Names/SynSpecies.asp?RecordID=414733 . These synonyms are even mentioned on the preferred names EOL taxon page. I think the harvest from this database could be optimized.

In my absence I see that Gonçalo Themudo has created a community around Duplicate pages. I intend to join this to avoid double work and to create one location for these issues. I made a Duplicate collection of the fungus Aporhytisma urticae. But I don’t see how I can add this to focus collection. This is because I don’t have a manager function (yet), right? Bart

Tanya -- URL to original data object only applies when you are using something EXACTLY as you found it. If you crafted your text are using multiple sources then this field should be left blank.
Similarly, the Bibliographic Citation field is for how people should cite the text object -- if you've copied it from someone else, and they have a "to cite this page" you should put it there so others will cite it properly. But if you have written your own text based on the work of others, then you can leave this area blank or put in a citation with yourself as author. Otherwise, you just list the references you used in the box at the bottom.

Would it be possible to get a little more direction in regard to citation standards? Specifically, the "References" and "Bibliographic Citation" sections seem redundant, and the "URL to original data object" can't be used when text is taken from multiple sources. I did read the "Re-using Wikipedia Content" section, which was very helpful in regard to entries that pull from a single source, but I'd like to ensure I'm citing multiple sources correctly.

@Eli, that's a very interesting idea. We'll want to talk about what it is we're harvesting, and options for how we could serve it back to you en masse for recovery purposes. Strategically this has some implications as you can imagine for the role EOL plays.

Eli, yes, we cache just about everything we serve (except videos in some cases, I think) so it should be possible to provide data back to you, for example in a catastrophic situation like this. We aren't set up to do this easily, and it may not be simple to consume the data after we've processed it for EOL. But this could well be an added bonus for partners!

Thanks Cindy. It was there the whole time, I just didn't see it :-) Another question: Does EOL actually keep content partner information on its own servers? Like, if Antweb crashed and burned, would all of the data from the most recent harvest be backed up on EOL servers?

Eli, you as a curator you should be able to hide the duplicates. (You can also hide any object you want). Go to the object page (follow the link for "learn more about this article") and look for the curator controls near the "associated with" on the right. In this case, it looks like only curators see the duplicates -- regular users probably see only the most recently harvested version on the details. I think that this is a known bug but I'll check. Thanks for reporting it.

What recourse do curators have to address multiple identical objects appearing on the same taxon page? For example, the same Wikipedia object appears ~5 times on the following ant page
