Alice from the SP team made some fixes that have significantly improved response time, at least on my own site (http://dev.scratchpads.eu/node/1430#comment-3851). I'd be curious to know whether Jiri and other SP2 users also experience improved performance.

@Jiri Hulcr: I still have a v.1 Scratchpad. It seems reasonably responsive. Not looking forward to v.2 if it will be slow.

Eli and other Scratchpads users - I just posted a comment on this slowness on the Scratchpads list of issues - please add comments if it also bothers you!

@Jiri Hulcr: Thanks for confirming, Jiri. Internet connection speed doesn't seem to affect site speed. The amount of data being transferred is usually relatively low, but whatever processes are going on within the site are often excruciatingly slow are many times cause operations to timeout. I really hope they can improve the performance.

Eli, Yes, it is surprisingly slow, even if I am on a superfast University connection.

For those of you with SP2 sites, do you find the response time of your site to be abnormally slow relative to other websites? I find administrative tasks take an extremely long time to load and even simple operations like loading taxon description pages are quite sluggish. I assumed this is the case across all SP2 sites, but am now wondering if it might be an issue with how my site is configured. Even when I disable things like 'Lexicon' , the site performance is still frustratingly slow.

In asnwer to Jiri's question regarding how to bulk import image metadata into SP2, Laurence posted this..."@Jiri Hulcr: Hi Jiri, you can find batch file metadata import under the Import> Files - Excel file update> Images then click on the "Excel template file for updating"."

@Jiri Hulcr: Hey Jiri, the cropped thumbnail thing is something that the SP folks seem to be holding firm on. There's no way under the SP2 platform to modify the thumbnail styles/settings. It's easily done in Drupal, but for some reason the SP team doesn't want to do it. If anyone else wants to lobby for uncropped thumbnails, you can add a comment on this issue: http://dev.scratchpads.eu/node/1247

HELP PLEASE... We lost access to our site http://xyleborini.myspecies.info/ ! Reloading is not helping, it's just giving me and the users error messages. Would someone know who to contact for help? Unfortunately I can't open an "Issue" for the developers, because I don't have any website to log into... Thanks in advance!

Images cut off: Hi ScratchPaddies. Most of my recently uploaded images in ScratchPads are displayed so that their longer ends are cut off, which renders them pretty much useless. If you go to my scratchpad site (xyleborini.myspace.info) you will immediately see what I mean. It seems to be set up so that images are resized to fit the shorter side of the image box, rather than the longer side. There must be some trivial switch, but if not, and if it's in the code, is there any hope that it will be addressed? Eli already mentioned to me that it is possible on other platforms, but I am wondering if anybody has had, and solved, this issue in ScratchPads? Thank you! Jiri

Heads up that SP2 platform implemented the bulk image upload. It works pretty smooth, but I found best success going more for ~30mb batches than the purported 50mb max.

Hey all, The Scratchpads team sends their apologies. They've been having power issues at their museum's data center which is causing slowness on the platform. They're trying to work out a solution quickly but you may want to move your content activities offline for a little while. Sorry!!

By the way, v1 migration is upon us- those of you with v1 sites that are not seriously customized should be moved over in the next few days.

Jen: Now that you mention it, it does seem a good deal snappier..both my version 1 site and my test version 2 site. BTW, I was just interviewed about our African ichthyology scratchpad (africhthy.org) on the website Seriously Fish. http://www.seriouslyfish.com/africhthy-the-interview/

Hey, everyone! Anybody have slowness issues in the past week or so? The Scratchpads team fiddled with their servers recently and would like to know if this adversely affected speed. Thanks!

@Eli Sarnat: Eli: Sorry I missed your original question to me. I'm one of two admins for the African ichthyology scratchpad "Africhthy" at http://africhthy.org. We are still in Scratchpad 1.0 format. Not sure when we are getting ported over, but we've created a pretty complex Scratchpad, so it will be interesting to see how it all works in v.2. I am also interested to know when it will be possible to port my momryid LifeDesk (http://mormyrids.lifedesks.org) to a Scratchpad. There remain a lot of things I like about the LifeDesk platform that I hope don't get lost in the eventual transition. I am hoping eventually to incorporate everything in my LifeDesk into my version 2.0 Scratchpad (which includes all species of African freshwater fishes, not just Mormyridae). It will be interesting to see when/if this can be done successfully!
