The Eastern Painted Turtle cannot expand it's chest to breathe however the turtle forces air in and out of it's lungs by alternately contracting the flank and shoulder muscles.
The common garter snake is immune to the toxic skin of bufonidae meaning they can eat them without harm.
Instead of swimming in water like most turtles, the Common Snapping Turtle actually walks on the bottom of the lake or pond!
The Eastern Box Turtle is the official state reptile of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Unlike most snakes, the Northern Water Snake is a live-bearer which means they do not lay eggs!
