Animals resident at the Smithsonian's National Zoo

About 2,000 animals from 400 different species reside at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. The best known residents are the giant pandas, but the Zoo is also home to great apes, big cats, Asian elephants, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, aquatic animals, small mammals, and many more! In these collections are some of the animals you can meet in different areas of the Zoo.
