Washington, DC/Baltimore Cricket Crawl

These are the target species for the 2012 Washington, DC/Baltimore Cricket Crawl, an evening sound census of the late summer crickets and katydids singing throughout the Baltimore/DC metro areas.

The call is a series of short, rich trills.

The call is a series of burry chirps: "cheer-cheer-cheer...," strung closely together. It is similar to the call of the Fall Field Cricket, but it is more rapid.

The call is a wet, isolated "tzip," sometimes given in a sequence, often irregular, with several seconds in between. It is very similar to the "tzip" call of the Greater Anglewing Katydid.

This species has two calls. One is an uneven, rapid series of ticks, sounding like two pebbles being tapped together. The other is a lisping "tzip," which may be repeated a number of times. It is very similar to the call of the Fork-tailed Bush Katydid.
