Last updated about 2 years ago
Characteristic plants of the Southern Appalachian Rich Cove Forest community.
Distinguishing characteristics: Diverse mixture of moisture-loving trees and lush, species-rich herbaceous layer with amazing diversity of spring ephemerals
Occurrence: Fairly widespread in the mountains at low to mid elevations
Conservation aspects: Tremendous plant diversity, some of the best examples of old-growth deciduous forests in eastern North America and some of the best spring wildflower displays. Threatened by residential development, invasive species, and overharvesting of medicinal plants.
